Wow, it is not even a proof coin.

What is the draw for a coin like this?

2006 American Eagle Silver Proof One Ounce Coin (Z66)

The American Eagle Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. The Silver Proof Coin is only available in the one-ounce size. The obverse design is Adolph A. Weinmans full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the American flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left hand. The reverse design, by United States Mint sculptor/engraver John Mercanti, features a striking heraldic eagle with shield, and olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left talon. The 2006 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin is packaged in a blue velvet, satin-line presentation case and accompanied by a custom-designed Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Acting Director of the United States Mint.

Near as I can tell - there is no limit on number of coins made.

Same with the regular business strike.

The one to have is the reverse proof - which only comes in the set of three - with a limit of 250,000.

Sorry if I am wrong, but if I am, let's find out!

I believe the coin is not a proof coin.

Just an uncirculated regular strike coin with a W Mint mark.

I got me 2 of the 3 coin 20th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets
Should I sell em and double my money and buy more silver with or hold em?

I agree, hold. In addition to the reverse proof, I think that the "W" mark on the uncirculated coins may make them much more valuable in the futuure for collectors trying to fill out their eagles.

You guys have it wrong. The coin in question is an uncirculated eagle made for the 20th anniversary of the ASE. It was to be minted to meet demand, but minting was stopped before many expected it to. It is the only uncirculated silver eagle with a mint mark and will no doubt be a key coin to the series collector. The original price was $19.95......they are no longer available through the mint. Some people like myself are hoping to still receive back orders.

Incorrect, they are not the proof coin. Just a bullion coin withthe "W" mint mark. They were $19.95. They are selling for more because the mint is out.

I do not know where you can find out what the mitage was for bullion out of West Point.

Bullioncoins & Scott are correct - that IS the Uncirculated.......I was reading the initial post which got it wrong.....so I posted for the proof....the regular coin was $20, 48 more for the proof........

And he is correct - it DID sell out..........

FROM THE MINT -

Both the proof and uncirculated American Eagles carry the “W” mint mark of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place>West Point</st1:place> while the reverse proof coins carry the “P” mint mark of <st1:City><st1:place>Philadelphia</st1:place></st1:City>.

The American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin will also be available as an <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

individual option beginning <st1:date Month="9" Day="28" Year="2006">September 28, 2006</st1:date>. This coin will be minted to demand.<o:p></o:p>

I was on the phone with the Mint yesterday - not some clerk but a high up mucky-muck who told me that by governmental law - they can not sell (or even send) a 2006 coin after 12/31/06 (tho they CAN exchange - I tried to exchange some FRN for a silver eagle but, ummm, they laughed).

The impression I was given - note how I phrased that - was that they now have 2 weeks to get ALL the 2006 coins out the door or violate federal law.......so for those of us (note - US) who have backorders pending - we should either get notification by 12/30 or we know we didn't luck out! But they do have a LOT of material they are trying to get out - so I was told not to give up hope yet!

Thought you'd like to know........

I just got off the fone with the mint regarding my order thats been back ordered since October they told me that they will go out before the end of the month.

Now my expected ship date is Christmas Day

It just pisses me off to know that all those fux on the late night coin TV shows got first priority to buy them all and they didnt have enough for the general public.

****ing BULLSHIT! I tell ya!

SLIGHT CORRECTION - unless the Mint was able to do something for you they said they can not do for anyone (which is to look and see how far down the backorder list you are) - you will get yours at the end of the month IF they get that far down the list! (Same with the rest of us.)

"Order in process" means they have us on a huge list in case there's some left at the end.........thats one thing I discussed with the high level mucky-muck!

So cross your fingers!

And yes - those TV guys get priority cause they buy so many millions of dollars a year in coins - its not fair!
